Cross‑Border Sci‑Tech Cooperation Enters a New Phase – Wenzhou Research Institute in collaboration with NTU (WRIN) Officially Launched!
On the morning of October 22, 2025, the inauguration ceremony of the Wenzhou Research Institute in collaboration with NTU (WRIN) was held with great ceremony at the China Eye Valley Town. Distinguished guests attending the event included Professor Peng Shujie, Vice President of Nanyang Technological University (NTU) and Fellow of the Singapore Academy of Engineering; Mr. Wang Zhenyong, Vice Mayor of Wenzhou Municipal People's Government; Professor Qu Jia, Chairman of China Eye Valley and Director of the State Key Laboratory of Optometry and Visual Science; Mr. Li Dan, Deputy Secretary of the Longwan District Party Committee and Acting District Mayor; Ms. Qian Suwen, Secretary of the Party Committee of Wenzhou Municipal Bureau of Science and Technology; and Professor Pu Kanyi, Associate Dean of the College of Engineering at NTU and Honorary Dean of WRIN. Together, they witnessed the official launch of this milestone international cooperation project.
WRIN Leadership Addresses
The ceremony commenced in a solemn and warm atmosphere. Mr. Li Dan, Deputy Secretary of the Longwan District Party Committee, Acting District Mayor, and Deputy Secretary of the Party Working Committee of Wenzhou Bay New Area, fully affirmed the strategic significance of the collaboration between Wenzhou and NTU in establishing the institute. He noted that the launch of WRIN is a key step in Wenzhou's implementation of the "315" scientific and technological innovation system and in building high‑level innovation platforms. It will inject strong momentum into the development of Wenzhou's biomedical industry and contribute to building Wenzhou into a high‑level innovative city.
Professor Peng Shujie, Vice President of NTU, expressed in his address that NTU, as a world‑leading public research university, possesses notable strengths in engineering sciences, biomedicine, materials science, and other fields. He emphasised that this partnership with Wenzhou exemplifies the deep integration of NTU's internationalisation efforts with local industries, and he looked forward to achieving breakthrough outcomes in frontier technology areas through this collaboration.
WRIN Inauguration Ceremony
In the presence of all attending guests, Professor Peng Shujie, Vice Mayor Wang Zhenyong, District Mayor Li Dan, Professor Qu Jia, Professor Pu Kanyi, Secretary Qian Suwen, and Committee Member Zhou Jun jointly initiated the launch procedure for WRIN. As the activation console lit up, the Wenzhou Research Institute in collaboration with NTU (WRIN) was officially established, marking the creation of a world‑class innovation platform in Wenzhou at the forefront of biomedicine.
Dean Appointment Ceremony
Subsequently, an appointment ceremony was held for the Dean and the Academic Committee. Professor Pu Kanyi was appointed Honorary Dean of WRIN, Professor Liang Gaolin was appointed Executive Dean, and Professor Gao Yi and Professor Li Huaqiong were appointed Deputy Deans. The Academic Committee was also established concurrently, composed of over ten leading scholars from China and Singapore, including Chen Xiaodong, Zhao Yanli, Duan Hongwei, Zheng Yuanjin, Huang Hengwei, Hou Hanwei, Wu Bin, Zhong Lei, Lin Guozhan, and Luo Dahai, providing robust support for WRIN's research innovation and academic development.
This partnership is set to forge a new model of "four‑chain integration" (innovation chain, industrial chain, capital chain, and talent chain), aiming not only to produce top‑tier outcomes in key fields but also to nurture international innovative talents for Wenzhou. Wenzhou Bay New Area and Longwan District will provide full‑cycle support to ensure a continuous surge of innovative vitality.
