To further promote international academic exchange and research collaboration, and to cultivate high-level talent with a global perspective, we hereby release the Admissions Brochure for the Joint Ph.D. Training Program of the Wenzhou Research Institute in collaboration with Nanyang Technological University (Wenzhou Research Institute in collaboration with NTU). This program aims to provide outstanding doctoral students with joint training opportunities at world-class overseas universities and research institutions, fostering academic innovation and cross-cultural research capabilities. 1. Introduction to the Research Institute and Nanyang Technological University, Singapore

The Wenzhou Research Institute in collaboration with NTU (WRIN) was officially launched on October 22, 2025. It integrates research teams from Wenzhou and Nanyang Technological University, Singapore (NTU) to carry out sustainability-oriented research and innovation in key fields and to promote high-quality international scientific and technological cooperation.

The College of Engineering at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore (NTU) is one of the largest engineering schools in the world, with nearly 10,000 undergraduate students and 7,000 graduate students. As a globally renowned research-intensive university, the College ranked 2th in Engineering in the U.S. News & World Report 2026 ranking of Best Global Universities. In the latest QS World University Rankings by Subject 2027, six of its disciplines rank among the top ten worldwide, with Materials Science ranked highest at 3rd globally. With world-class facilities, a vibrant research ecosystem, and deep industry partnerships, NTU provides an ideal environment for doctoral students to conduct cutting-edge multidisciplinary research.

2. Program Information, Duration, and Training

Degree Awarded: Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore

Participating School: College of Engineering

Study Mode: Full-time

Duration: 4 years (thesis submission required before the end of the 4th year; doctoral thesis defense will take place six months to one year after thesis submission)

Enrollment Date: August 2027

Research Directions: Biotechnology, biomaterials, biophotonics, bioimaging, biomedical devices, nanomedicine, tissue engineering, in vitro diagnostics, ophthalmic technology, wearable and smart sensors, robotics and automation, data analytics engineering, etc.

3. WRIN Commissioned Training Model

3.1 Admitted students will receive a 4-year scholarship covering full tuition waiver and a monthly stipend. Taxes and fees related to the stipend shall be borne by the students themselves.

3.2 Admitted students are required to sign a commissioned training agreement with the Research Institute and the Wenzhou Eye Valley Development Service Center. The main terms are as follows: during the four years of doctoral study and the one year thereafter, the doctoral student shall—

Study at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore for 3 years;

Work full-time on research at WRIN in Wenzhou or at relevant institutions in Wenzhou during any 1 year of the doctoral program and for 1 year after submission of the doctoral thesis, among other agreed matters.

4. Application Requirements

4.1 Basic Requirements

We welcome outstanding students with research potential, a passion for scientific and technological innovation, and an ambition to develop in biotechnology and related fields. Candidates should:

Support the leadership of the Communist Party of China, uphold the correct political orientation, love the motherland, be willing to serve socialist modernization, and be law-abiding citizens of the People's Republic of China;

Possess a strong academic background and research potential;

Be in good physical and mental health meeting the medical examination requirements for admission of both China and WRIN;

Provide two academic recommendation letters;

Students of Wenzhou or Zhejiang origin are strongly encouraged to apply.

4.2 Admission Requirements

Admission is granted on a merit basis, comprehensively considering the following criteria:

1. Graduates from China's 985/211 universities, "Double First-Class" universities, or universities ranked in the QS global top 300;

2. Bachelor's degree holders: a subject average grade of ≥80 is preferred;

3. Master's degree holders: subject average grades of ≥80 in both undergraduate and master's studies are preferred;

4. Academic performance: applicants with published papers or articles will be given priority;

5. English proficiency: TOEFL paper-based ≥600, computer-based ≥250, or internet-based ≥100, or IELTS overall ≥6.5 is preferred (test date within 2 years prior to the application date);

6. GRE: Verbal (V) and Quantitative (Q) scores of ≥149 each, (V+Q) total ≥319, and Analytical Writing (AW) ≥3.5 preferred (test date within 5 years prior to the application date).

5. Application Procedure

5.1 How to Apply

The email subject line must follow the format: "Name–Major–Degree". After the materials are received and preliminarily reviewed, the Research Institute will contact the applicant as soon as possible regarding subsequent matters.

5.2 Required Materials

1. Resume/CV in both Chinese and English;

2. Research proposal in English (demonstrating alignment with the intended supervisor's research direction);

3. Scanned copy of the passport information page and a color ID photo taken within the last three months;

4. Standardized test score reports (TOEFL/IELTS within 2 years, GRE within 5 years, if available);

5. All degree certificates and official academic transcripts (notarized translations required for materials not in English);

6. Two academic recommendation letters (must include the referees' names and their university/institution email addresses);

7. Ph.D. Program Application Form.
