On October 24, 2026, as autumn deepened along the banks of the Oujiang River, a “medical-engineering dialogue” spanning the equator and the East China Sea was sparking innovative ideas. The “Singapore-Wenzhou Innovative Diagnostics and Therapeutics Project Exchange Meeting” concluded successfully this afternoon in the roadshow hall of China Eye Valley in Wenzhou. Hosted by the Wenzhou Research Institute of Nanyang Technological University (WRIN), the event brought together Singaporean academicians, top scientists, and industry pioneers. Anchored in “innovative diagnostics and therapeutics,” it explored new pathways for translating biomedical and cutting-edge technologies from academia and research into industry.

Gathering of Luminaries, Building a “Bridge of Hearts” for China-Singapore Sci-Tech Innovation

As a highly influential highland for the life and health industry in China, China Eye Valley welcomed a heavyweight “think tank.” The event was chaired by Researcher Gao Yi, Deputy Dean of the Wenzhou Research Institute of Nanyang Technological University (WRIN), and Researcher Li Huaqiong.

In his address, Professor Pu Kanyi, Fellow of the Singapore National Academy of Science and Honorary Dean of WRIN, said that his team has long focused on molecular imaging and nanotheranostics and has developed technologies such as near-infrared luminescent diagnostic and therapeutic probes and fluorescence tracing of tiny postoperative lesions. He expressed the expectation to deepen cooperation with Longwan in three areas: building joint R&D platforms, jointly cultivating young talent, and advancing the clinical translation of mature technologies. Professor Xu Liangde, Secretary-General of the China Eye Valley Council and Executive Director of the Wenzhou International Ophthalmic Innovation Center, pointed out that China Eye Valley adheres to the principle of “China Eye Valley, World Vision,” continues to build a full-chain ecosystem of “research breakthroughs—clinical validation—enterprise incubation—capital empowerment,” and strives to become a “link” and “incubator” for China-Singapore sci-tech innovation cooperation. Director Zhu Zhimeng, Member of the Party Working Committee and Deputy Director of the Management Committee of Wenzhou Bay New Area, stated that Longwan will rely on WRIN to continuously improve policies and service support and promote the landing and translation of cross-border innovation resources.

From the laboratories of Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in Singapore to the clinical and industrial frontlines in Wenzhou, China, this event was not only an academic collision but also a deep handshake between the “Lion City’s” frontier research and “Ouyue’s” manufacturing and translation capabilities.

Cutting-Edge Roadshow Demonstrates the Boundless Possibilities of “Medical-Engineering Cross-Disciplinary” Collaboration

The project exchange session presented a concentration of frontier achievements: Academician Zhao Yanli, Fellow of the Singapore National Academy of Science and professor at NTU, shared R&D on engineered whole-cell tumor vaccines; Professor Jack Wong, Founder of the Asia Regulatory Professionals Association (ARPA) and CEO of RNAscence, shared innovative R&D for scar prevention and treatment and an siRNA platform technology targeting skin diseases; Professor Liang Gaolin, Executive Dean of the Wenzhou Research Institute of Nanyang Technological University (WRIN), presented tumor imaging technology based on the CBT-Cys click reaction; Professor Duan Hongwei, Dean of the School of Chemistry, Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology at NTU, introduced functional nanoparticles and ultrasensitive bacterial detection; Professor Chen Peng, Principal Engineer at the Singapore Skin Research Institute and professor at NTU, discussed novel weight-loss technologies and molecular diagnostics; Professor Zhou Jiawei, Vice President (Executive President) of Ningbo Eye Hospital and Executive Director of the Ningbo Eye Institute, focused on cognitive impairment and modulation in amblyopia; Professor Huang Hengwei of NTU presented a cost-effective automated blood glucose monitoring solution; Professor Ling Tong of NTU demonstrated retinal multilayer imaging technology; and Professor Chen Jiangfan of the School of Ophthalmology and Optometry, Wenzhou Medical University, discussed the neuromodulatory significance of 40Hz light flicker. These projects comprehensively covered frontier fields such as tumor immunology, molecular diagnostics, eye-brain science, and skin health.

After the exchange, Researcher Li Huaqiong, Deputy Dean of the Institute, gave a presentation on the joint doctoral student training program, further connecting the collaborative chain of “talent—research—industry.”

Co-building a New “Industry-Academia-Research-Application” Ecosystem

From “ultrasensitive biosensing” to “targeted delivery,” and from “eye-brain pathways” to “skin RNA intervention,” leveraging the bridging role of the Wenzhou Research Institute of Nanyang Technological University (WRIN) and the well-developed supporting ecosystem of China Eye Valley, these frontier projects are gaining fertile ground for moving “from papers to products.”

This exchange meeting was not merely a project showcase, but a microcosm of the normalized collaboration between China and Singapore in the field of innovative diagnostics and therapeutics. As Nanyang’s “scientific breeze” blows into Wenzhou’s “industrial harbor,” more breakthrough technologies concerning human life and health may well be nurtured and emerge here in the future.
